Itinerary
DAY 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – KM 82 – Ayapata
We will begin our Trail to Machu Picchu early in the morning. Our private transport will take us from Cusco to Ollantaytambo, where we will enjoy breakfast. After a short break, we will continue to KM 82 (2,706 meters above sea level), the official starting point of the trek.
We will pass through the Inca Trail checkpoint and start hiking beside the Vilcanota River. The trail will take us to the first Inca site, Huillca Raccay, and the beautiful terraces of Patallacta. From there, we will see Veronica Mountain (5,860 meters above sea level) shining in the distance.
After a tasty lunch at Hatun Chaca, we will continue toward Ayapata Camp (3,300 meters above sea level). Along the way, we may buy snacks and drinks from local villagers. We will arrive at our campsite around 5:00 PM., enjoy a hot drink, dinner, and rest.

DAY 2: Dead Woman Pass – Runkurakay Pass – Pacaymayo – Chaquicocha
We will start early with a hot cup of coca tea to prepare for the toughest day. The first challenge will be climbing to Dead Woman’s Pass (4,215 meters above sea level), the highest point of the trek. From the top, we will admire panoramic views of the Andes.
After descending to Pacaymayo Valley, we will rest and enjoy lunch surrounded by native plants and birds. Then, we will continue climbing to Runkurakay Pass (3,950 meters above sea level), passing waterfalls and ancient Inca stairways.
We will explore the fascinating ruins of Sayacmarca, an Inca fortress built on the mountainside. The path will lead us to Chaquicocha Camp (3,600 meters above sea level), where we will relax, have dinner, and sleep under the stars.

DAY 3: Chaquicocha – Phuyupatamarca – Wiñaywayna
We will enjoy a scenic morning walk through the Andean cloud forest. The trail will gently rise and fall across ancient stone paths. The views of the Salkantay Mountain (6,271 meters above sea level) and Urubamba Valley will amaze us.
After a few hours, we will reach Phuyupatamarca, known as “The Town Above the Clouds.” From here, we will see the first glimpses of Machu Picchu Mountain. We will then descend a long stairway to Wiñaywayna, one of the most beautiful Inca sites on the route.
At the site, we will explore its agricultural terraces and temples. In the evening, we will enjoy tea, dinner, and our last night of camping before reaching Machu Picchu.

DAY 4: Wiñaywayna – Sun Gate – Machu Picchu – Cusco
We will wake up before dawn and have an early breakfast. Our goal will be to reach Inti Punku (Sun Gate) by sunrise. From this spot, we will enjoy the first magical view of Machu Picchu shining in the morning light.
We will then walk down to the lost city of the Incas and enter through the House of the Guardians. Our guide will lead a detailed two-hour tour through the citadel’s temples, terraces, and sacred plazas.
After exploring, we will take the bus or walk down to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Later, we will board the train to Ollantaytambo, where our private transport will take us back to Cusco.
